A ROSSENDALE man who was joint master of Holcombe Hunt has died after an accident while riding his horse.
George Dickinson, 76, of Helmshore Road, Helmshore, fell while on a ride with friends on a Kirkham trail on Saturday. He later died at Royal Preston Hospital. An inquest was opened and adjourned at Blackpool coroners court yesterday.
Mr Dickinson had been joint master for around nine years, prior to that he was hunt secretary for many years and had hunted with Holcombe for more than 20 years.
A funeral will be held on Monday after a post mortem examination has been completed.
The tragedy comes after a rider was crushed when his horse fell at a fence during a show jumping event on Sunday.
James Boyle, 35, of Llety Brongu, Llangynwyd, near Maesteg, south Wales, later died from his injuries.
The day before, top horsewoman Caroline Pratt died in similar circumstances in Lincolnshire.
