Kamini Manick's 3A's and a B in Italian, Biology, Chemistry and Geology helped to secure her a place at Oxford University.

The Preston College student will study Earth Sciences at the University. She said, "I studied Geology for the first time when I went to College and found I really enjoyed it. It became my strongest subject.

"I decided to apply for Oxford but I never thought I'd get in so I was surprised when an offer came through!

"The interview was very nerve racking but I was just myself and answered their questions honestly."

A field trip to the Isle of Arran proved to be a real highlight during her time at College.

"The week ended up being a really good team bonding experience, with the opportunity to speak and work with some of my class mates for the first time. I enjoyed it a lot."

Kamini has always been a bit of a gem, clocking up six A stars, 3 A's and 1 B in her GCSE's at Fulwood High School before taking on an amazing six AS levels during her time at Preston College and then deciding to concentrate on her chosen four during her second and third years. On top of all that she even managed time to get an A star in GCSE Italian.

It seems travel and exploration runs in the family as Kamini's sister, Davina, is also at Preston College taking the vocational route to study Travel and Tourism under the scholarship programme.
