The spirit of cricket was the real winner in the Khaizar Memorial Cup held at Swindon Playing Fields, Nelson.

The final saw local lads Whitefield take on Oldham's Untouchables. Whitefield scored a competitive 79 in their six overs and with the light fading Untouchables decided to call it a day half way through their innings and conceded the game to Whitefield. It was a rare act of generosity for a cricket team these days.

Earlier Whitefield had overcome All Stars in the semis and Untouchables came through a nervous final over against Jinna to secure their places in the final. Jinna required five off the final over but only managed two.

Naveed Ashraf was voted player of the tournament which was held in memory of keen sportsman and community worker Khaizer Saeed who sadly died last year aged 38.

Members of Khaizer's family were hand to present trophies to teams. The tournament attracted sides from, Haslinden, Rochdale, Oldham and Accrington.
