Blackburn Eagles were crowned champions of the Blackburn and Amateur Cricket League - and boy did they deserve it.

In recent years they always seemed to start brightly and then fade away. And shouts of you'll never win the league could be heard from the sidelines.

But this year it seems Blackburn Eagles were in mood to surrender their position at the top of the league.

They began there and stayed there to hold on to their first ever league victory. As week and games went by the side only got stronger and if you are amassing 200 plus totals against the 2003 champions you must be doing something right.

Their only competition came from newly promoted Brookhouse but once behind they had to rely on the Eagles losing a game and dropping bonus points. That didn't happen. In the end the margin was four points made up of the extra four bonus points Eagles managed to take.

Little Harwood slipped to fourth and were overtaken by an impressive Haideria. Both sides though finished way off the pace. Last season's champions Gujrat started badly and it just got worse. Even in their 'unluckiest' seasons of late they managed to put up a fight but this year they were rolled over far too easily.

Harangham secured the B Division championship but they had to work for it. Needing a win in their last game against Bahowal they were in trouble at 60-6 but Yasir Patel managed to pull one final innings out of the hat to clinch the title. A hopeful looking ICC team had gathered to watch Harangham fail but it wasn't to be. Caprice Apparell were also promoted into the big time aftre pipping Bahowal and Bharuch.

The cup final between Gujrat and Brookhouse was cancelled after the pitch was flooded. Both teams may play the game early next season but for the moment will share the trophy.
