A garage owner told how a frantic man who got into his car after flagging him down turned out to be part of a gang which had just "ram-raided" his dealership, taking two high performance cars.

Sajid Khan had left his business in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, after dealing with the aftermath of of the raid and was driving home when he pulled over for a young man who looked in a worried state.

He said his passenger then told them how he was on the run after pulling off a "big job" only to then spot Mr Khan's T-shirt with its Riverside Motors logo.

Mr Khan, 25, and a friend, who was also in his car, then grabbed the astonished suspect and drove him to the nearest police station.

He said: "I could not believe my eyes.

"He just got into my car and asked if we could drop him off at the taxi rank.

"We were amazed when he told us what he had done. Why would he say that ?

"We grabbed him and took him straight to the police station."

Mr Khan said the gang of up to seven men had smashed their way into the his forecourt and taken two Subaru Impreza cars, which were later recovered by the police.

He said the vehicles were now being examined by forensic experts.

Mr Khan added, "We're still trying to patch up all the damage here. They damaged other cars getting the others out.

"I'm just glad they've been caught."

West Yorkshire Police said three men from Leeds, aged 18, 19 and 20 years old, were arrested in connection with a raid on the garage on Wednesday September 1.

A spokesman said the men have been released on police bail pending further inquiries and appealed for witnesses.
