IN the middle of their worst run of results for some time, Brooksbottoms slumped to a sixth defeat in seven games at Deane & Derby.

And a six wicket defeat was just about what they deserved from a miserable performance.

Missing a number of regulars, Brox re-jigged their batting line-up and, for a time, the innings was ticking along reasonable well.

While David Brown and Richard Ernill were together a useful total looked in the offing but when the former was the third man out, with the score on 74, the old frailties returned and the visitors stumbled along to 129 all out with the Bolton outfit's Jeewa claiming five wickets.

Defending such a low score meant that it was imperative that Brox struck early.

That didn't happen as the openers put on 44. When the breakthrough did arrive it came gift-wrapped courtesy of some kamikaze running between the wickets.

Ernill produced a sharp spell of bowling that picked up three wickets but despite the captain's sterling work, Brox were never likely to defend their paltry target.

In the end, Deane & Derby coasted home with more than 15 overs to spare as the Summerseat men's Surridge Cup campaign reached a new low.
