RESIDENTS of Barrowford are breathing a sigh of relief after plans for a play area were thrown out.
There was a 'heated discussion' at the Barrowford and Western Parishes Committee last night about the plans for a multi-use games area on a car park in Wilton Street.
Residents campaigned against the scheme because of fears children could drown if they slipped down the bank into Colne or Pendle Water which meet next to the site.
There were also concerns about loss of car parking in an area used by people going to football and cricket matches on Bull Holme playing field.
Two petitions against the scheme were handed in to councillors.
After the meeting Jean Peake, of Romney Avenue, said: "This foolhardy suggestion should never have been considered in the first instance in such a hazardous place."
