I WAS waiting for a lift to work the other day when I noticed a rather soaked cat making its way across the road.

Suddenly, out of the blue, it was struck by a speeding car. Did the driver not see it as it hit his bumper, rolled up the bonnet of his car and struck his windscreen, because he failed to stop.

The cat was obviously badly hurt but was still breathing so I took it into my house where it lay bleeding. I left it with my wife and distraught children and 15 minutes later it died.

I wonder if that driver would have stopped if it had been a child and not a cat. It makes you wonder.
