GOLBORNE Parkside started life in NWC Division Three and learned a few tough lessons as they edged a tight game at Bamber Bridge.

Golborne missed one good chance before conceding a converted try. After 17 minutes they were 10-0 down as they struggled to complete their sets.

Finally they got their act together and James Byrne forced his way over for a try converted by Lewis Davy but right on half time Bridge scored again to hold a 14-6 lead.

Early in the second half Kevin Marsden crashing over for a try converted by Davy to make the score 14-12. But right from the kick off a Golborne error gave Bridge the advantage that they took to score a try and increase their lead to 18-12.

Golborne began to get their game together and levelled the score at 18 all with a try from Lewis Davy converted by himself. They finally took the lead with 10 minutes remaining when Craig Timmins raced over in the corner after having an earlier effort ruled out for a forward pass. With four minutes left Andy Simms made the game safe with a penalty goal.

Golborne second team opened their season with a narrow 20-18 defeat at home to Halton Simms Cross 'A'.

The Golborne Club have recruited well in the off season. Philip Shaw has joined the first team coaching team of Dave Tickle and Terry Byrne. Club steward Peter Jones has took on the role of the second team coach along with Paul Melling and Andy Rigby.

The club is further strengthened by the return of former youth players Stephen Johnson, Craig Parr and Lee Cooper.

This Saturday Golborne first team are away to Widnes West Bank Bears in the first round of the BARLA Lancashire Cup.The second team are away at Latchford Albion. Players meet at 12 .30pm.

Meanwhile the first team has secured a valuable extension to their major sponsorship deal with Bank Street Car Sales.

The club is always on the out look for players and people who are interested in being involved in the biggest voluntary group in the Golborne and Lowton area.
