ST MARY'S Church in Prestwich will combine a heritage day with their patronal festival this weekend.

The church and grounds will be open to the public from 9.30am Saturday and there will be a variety of medieval events held throughout the two days.

The church, a Grade I listed building will be open for tours from 9.30am to 6pm on Saturday, and from 12.30pm to 6pm on Sunday.

The church tower will also be open over the weekend for demonstrations of bell ringing and tours.

The grounds of the church, which is situated in Church Lane, will become a hive of activity from noon to 5pm with stalls, games and refreshments.

There will be demonstrations of hand spinning, quilting, embroidery, dyeing, willow weaving and ceramic tiling.

Also on offer will be children's activities such as face painting, guess the weight of the ox and a bran tub.

The weekend will culminate in a celebration of traditional music with a concert held in church at 8pm by "Tapestry of Music".

Tickets for the concert are available from Prestwich Library, the Church Inn or Bury's Tourist Information Office, priced £5.
