LEIGH RMI's tight budget has forced them to release Carl Adams.

The midfielder, who was previously with manager Phil Starbuck at Hucknall Town, was told he was surplus to requirements because of new additions to the squad.

"It was an amicable arrangement, but he has been stNruggling with travel and fitness," said Starbuck. " He is a good lad but I always knew there might be an issue with his fitness. He has worked hard but has not been able to maintain the level required for the Conference."

Starbuck hopes his new boys Ian Fitzpatrick, Michael Byrne and Gary Williams can continue to make an impression.

Fitzpatrick, released by Shrewsbury, and Byrne, on a month's loan from Stockport County, have added a new dimension to RMI's attack, while Williams, who made his first appearance as a second-half substitute on Saturday, immedaitely stamped his authority on the game.

The wide-right midfielder was formerly with Doncaster and Accrington Stanley, but was a free agent after returning home from a spell in the USA.

Meanwhile, the versatility of Karl Rose is providing an unexpected bonus for Starbuck. The former Scarborough player has taken over from the injured Gareth Holmes in midfield and impressed his boss.

Starbuck said: "Karl can play at centre-half, midfield or upfront. He has done very well. He is working hard and been productive and scored a superb goal last Saturday."

The Railwaymen expect Martin Moran to recover from an ankle injury ahead of Saturday's trip to in-form Accrington Stanley, and Gregor Rioch may also return after a hamstring strain. Holmes has undergone cartilage knee surgery this week and will be sidelined for three weeks.
