A GRIEVING dad has launched a fight for justice after claiming his son was poisoned while in Holland.

Keith Haworth says he suspects his son Liam was killed for his money and that he won't rest until he has uncovered the truth.

Mr Haworth, 50, who lives in Todmorden, has criticised the Dutch authorities for their inquiries into the death and has demanded a proper investigation.

Liam Haworth, 24, was discovered in a hostel in Rotterdam, where he was working, in October last year. Two men staying in the same room disappeared after the death and although one has since been questioned the other has vanished.

A blood test showed drugs in Liam's system, although there was no post mortem examination carried out in Holland. A post mortem examination in the UK revealed methadone and temazepam, a sleeping pill, in his blood.

An inquest has yet to be held.

Mr Haworth has secured the support of Burnley MP Peter Pike and charity Support after Murder and Manslaughter Abroad (SAMM Abroad), which is looking into the case.

He said: "I want justice for my son and I want the truth. The Dutch said there were no suspicious circumstances, but that's hard to believe. I want a proper investigation.

"There is no way he would have taken an overdose. He was looking forward to coming home and seeing his two children. It doesn't make sense. The sleeping pills are one thing, but not the methadone.

"Liam had just got his wages and I believe he was poisoned for the money. I'd like the authorities to talk to me about what happened."

Eve Henderson, a spokesman for SAMM Abroad, said: "There are a lot of unanswered questions in this case."

Mr Pike said: "Mr Haworth wants justice and I am trying to get him answers. Until an inquest is held there are question marks over the death. It appears the Dutch authorities could have done more and the two men staying with Liam should have been questioned."

Bob Wilson, the coroner's officer for Burnley, said: "The death is being looked at with a view to holding an inquest at some stage."
