LEE Roche may have handed Burnley a king-sized injury headache in the wake of last night's draw with Wigan.

Versatile defender Roche limped out of the dour JJB stalemate with just eight minutes remaining after suffering a tweaked hamstring.

And the Clarets now face an anxious wait to see whether Roche, who is currently deputising for suspended midfielder Micah Hyde, will recover in time to face Leicester City this weekend.

Boss Steve Cotterill, who is already short on numbers, confirmed: "Lee has a hamstring injury but we won't know the full extent for 24 to 48 hours.

"That has hit us hard really. All we know is he has pulled his hamstring and it might be that the oxygen chamber we used on Danny Coyne recently comes into play again."

The setback was the only downside of a creditable draw against a team tipped by many to win promotion to the Premiership this season.

Burnley defended doggedly to restrict the Latics to half chances and Cotterill admitted: "We are delighted with the point.

"It was hard work, but I thought the boys worked their socks off and probably deserved their point for the effort.

"We had to have players out there who were going to play well, otherwise it would have been extremely difficult to get a result.

"The defence was terrific and the only problem we had was when Lee came off injured.

"Territorially, I think we relinquished a lot in the second half, but there were no real chances and we probably ended up with the best two chances of the game."

Those chances fell late in the game to Graham Branch with a close-range header and French substitute Jean Louis Valois, who blazed over from six yards out.

Cotterill said: "I thought with a bit more conviction Graham could have won it with the header.

"However, he felt it looped up off their lad for a corner, so maybe we have to let him off there.

"Jean Louis has taken a bit of stick though for not burying that chance.

"He does have wonderful technique, but it was very difficult to come on in such a hurried situation so late in the game, so maybe we will give him a little grace too and just be delighted with the result."

Cotterill was, however, again frustrated in his efforts to hand fellow Frenchman Amadou Sanokho a place on the substitutes bench at Wigan.

The Clarets have failed in several attempts to gain international clearance from Italy, where Sanokho last played for Serie D side AC Sanguistese.

The Burnley boss said: "If anyone can get the Italian Football Association to liven up a bit, I'd be glad of the help because they are proving very slow.

"We have been pushing since Friday, but I think the more you push, the more some people dig their heels in, so we still don't know where we are with him."

Burnley Reserves scheduled Pontin's league clash against Stockport County at Turf Moor tonight has been postponed until a later date.
