PADIHAM progressed into the next round of the FA Vase thanks to a 2-1 replay win over Poulton Victoria FC at the Arbories last night.

But it proved to be a hard-fought victory and only an injury time penalty conversion by Daniel Stubberfield ended the West Cheshire side's resistance.

In the first half Dave Cringle gave the Birkenhead side a 1-0 lead direct from a free kick after 14 minutes. Neil Almond put Padiham level just before the half time whistle when a ball into the Poulton penalty area was only half cleared and Almond snapped up the loose ball to tuck away a well-taken equaliser.

Padiham had the better of the second half, but could only clinch the victory in an explosive end to the game. The 90th minute sending off of Poulton's Steve Nolan for a second yellow card incensed the visitors and led to a wild challenge by Gary Rey in injury time and the resultant penalty being awarded by referee Mr Anthony Moore.

Daniel Stubberfield stepped up to convert the spot kick sending Padiham through to the next round and Poulton home a disappointed side.
