STOMA patients living in Bury will soon have access to a specialist nurse.
The local health authority is now in the process of recruiting a nurse to deliver the specialised care required by patients who have had a stoma, which is an artificial opening to or from the intestine on the abdominal wall created by a surgeon.
Mrs Anne Coates, director of strategy and service development for Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT) said: "By working closely with colleagues within the PCT and partners at the local hospital trust, we have developed this exciting new post to provide care to stoma patients in Bury.
"The specialist nurse will also offer care and advice to patients with inflammatory bowel conditions."
"We anticipate the specialist nurse being in post by May/June, and will work across both hospital and community settings so that patients can receive the care they need both in hospital and closer to or at home."
