A BURY Air Cadet has been crowned top of the class at an annual presentation evening.

Sgt Caderyn Thomas was named Best Cadet 2004 after four years with the Bury Squadron at Elton Liberal Club in Leigh Lane.

During his time with the air cadets, the 17-year-old has completed his Gliding Scholarship Training, been a tenor drummer in the squadron band and attended a number of camps across the UK.

Over the last 12 months, the staff cadet has also been awarded the Sergeant Promotion, the Staff Cadet Classification, the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award and the Wing Sporting Blue.

He was presented with a certificate to mark his achievement by the Mayoress of Bury, Councillor Sharon Briggs, and Wing Commander Kevan Greenhalgh, chairman of East Lancashire Air Training Corps.

Flight Lieutenant Liz Thomas, officer commanding Bury Squadron, said: "It has once again been an excellent year with a massive input from all cadets who had achieved success in such a wide range of activities, and a special thanks to the staff and committee who made it possible."
