BURNLEY football fans will be able to raise a pint to the Clarets -- and also raise money for their beloved club.

For a brand new beer is being brewed in the Clarets' name to raise money for Burnley Football Club Supporters' Trust.

Every time a pint is sold, some of the profits will go to the trust so the more successful the scheme is, the more the club will benefit.

The ale will be unveiled at the trust's own beer festival next month before going on general sale, on draught, in local pubs.

Tony Scholes, from the trust, said: "I think it is a fantastic idea. We sat down and look at different ways of raising money and this will be a popular one. It will not raise a fortune but every penny raised is important.

"We hope it's a great success and becomes an established beer in the area. If it does, every time a Claret has a pint, the trust makes money."

The idea came when members went for a festive drink on Boxing Day at the Coal Clough pub in Burnley and found a guest beer on sale that was raising money for the Luton Town's supporters' trust.

Inspired, the Burnley trust commissioned their own beer from brewers Eastwood and Sanders, based in Elland, West Yorkshire.

"They make a lot of special one-off brews," said Tony. "We just buy the beer and get a commission on the sale of them. We make a little bit of money for no effort at all. All the money made out of it will go into the Clarets trust."

The name of the beer is being kept under wraps but it will be named after a Clarets legend.

The beer festival takes place on April 15 and 16 at the Foundation Bar at Burnley Football Club.

The first 20-barrel run will then be distributed to local pubs and if it proves popular, more will be made.
