BURY FC: Two goals from Stan Pearson and one from Doug Fletcher earned the Shakers a 3-2 victory over Derby County at the Racecourse Ground.

AMATEUR SOCCER: Bury Grammar School Old Boys defeated Manchester YMCA 5-0 at Princess Road. Man-of the-match was Ken Manning who helped himself to four second half goals after Robinson had given the local side a one goal half-time advantage.

LADIES HOCKEY: The Bury first team to take on Chorlton at home was: Flood, Putnam, Birkett, Ormerod, Dickinson, Banks, Alty, Cheetham, Kemp, Jones, Smallwood. Res: Walker.

BILLIARDS: The Roach Conservative Club team won the Billiards Team Championship at the Manchester District Billiards and Snooker Association Gala Week.

BOWLS: Veteran bowlers who play on Bury Corporation greens should all be charged the same fee, whether they live in the town or are visitors, the town council was urged.
