GETTING a basic name spelling wrong in a publicly funded pamphlet, Padihum not Padiham, shows a lack of professionalism by both Initiative Burnley, who commissioned the pamphlet, and GVA Grimley of Manchester, who produced it.

However, what intrigues me -- and should be most concern to the people and businesses of East Lancashire -- is why a Manchester business was producing Initiative Burnley pamphlets about Padiham?

Was no business in the Burnley/Padiham area capable of doing the job?

At least keeping the job 'local' would have improved the chances of getting the name Padiham spelt correctly.

Plus, it would have retained public money given to Initiative Burnley, to benefit the Burnley area, in the Burnley economy instead of transferring it 'out' to the Manchester economy.

It is wrong that public money, given to organisations such as Initiative Burnley, is spent without any regard for local businesses.

The result -- Initiative Burnley gets bad PR instead of 'local' goodwill.
