THE new headteachers set to take charge of schools planned in Burnley and Nelson were appointed by their temporary governing bodies last week.

Lancashire County Council announced yesterday who the heads of the new schools, which are yet to be finally approved and named, will be.

They are Burnley School A -- Andrew Mackenzie, currently head at Padiham's Gawthorpe High; Burnley School B -- Gill Broom, head of Ivy Bank Business and Enterprise College; Burnley School C -- Sally Cryer, head of Towneley; Burnley School D -- Elaine Dawson, head of Walshaw; Burnley School E (Catholic) -- Bernadette Bleasdale, head at St Hilda's; Burnley School F (sixth form centre) -- Stuart Smith, head at Habergham; Pendle School A -- Mike Tull, head at Mansfield and Pendle, and School B -- Geoff Walker, head of Walton High School.

In June, St Theodore's headmaster John Tat will take up the post of headteacher at Catholic comprehensive Yorkshire Martyrs, Bradford, the largest sports college in England, which shares a large sixth form with neighbouring Tong High School.

Mr Tat accepted the job in January before the selection process for the heads of Burnley's new secondary schools began.

A series of staff meetings will be held before March 17 to explain to teachers how the reorganisation will affect them.
