THE group that brought the war to Morecambe last summer has won a major tourism prize.
Poulton Heritage Committee has been presented with the Maxwell Bicker Award for 'tourism achievement' by the resort's Hotel and Tourism Association.
The group was behind the 1940s festival that saw D-Day re-enacted on a Morecambe beach, attracting a crowd of thousands from across the North West.
The mock battle was the highlight of a three-day Forties Festival which also included displays and exhibitions of wartime memorabilia, vehicles, dances and military parades to honour veterans of World War II.
Despite atrocious weather, it filled virtually every bedspace in Morecambes hotels and guest houses as spectators flocked to the spectacle.
And because of its huge success, the Forties Festival is to be repeated this year. It will run from September 10 to 12 - and heritage committee members promise it will be bigger abd better. Watch this space for details.
