EAST Lancashire MPs today called for more action to tackle the area's sordid outdoor sex sites.

Their calls came as another beauty spot was named and shamed as being a meeting place for people to engage in sex acts.

And today the dog walkers who use Billinge Woods, Blackburn, have said that they were sick and tired of being confronted by men -- and some women -- having sex and taking drugs at the site.

Andrew Newsome, 27, who walks his dogs in the woods, said: "Things have been going on up here for as long as I can remember but the problem has definitely got worse.

"I have phoned the police numerous times after seeing men engaged in sex acts together in the woods and in both of the car parks.

"And this is not restricted to the hours after dark. It is going on all through the day.

"The floor is littered with used condoms, underwear, lubricants and we have even seen syringes.

"The area has now attracted a number of male prostitutes who frequent the site as they too know what it is being used for.

"People are too scared to go in the woods now and families and females have stopped going there."

Police have already vowed to prosecute people for outraging public decency.

And Burnley MP, Peter Pike, said the problems of outdoor gay sex and people meeting strangers for sex -- dogging -- needed to be addressed promptly and he would take the issue up with local police.

He said: "We are always short of police officers but I will liaise with the police and see what more can be done.

"People should not be deterred from going to such places by these type of people and their activities.

"I know it is difficult for the police but they must take into account the public's complaints and maybe more of a police prescence will deter these activities."

Other dog walkers, Alan and Lindsay Evans, who live opposite Billinge Woods, have collected dozens of calling cards, with cars registration numbers on, that are left by the men to advertise that they are there for sex.

Mr Evans, said: "My wife and daughters will not go in the woods any more as it is too intimidating to see all these men just loitering around.

"I have made a number of reports to the police about what we have seen but although they empathise with what we have been exposed to they don't seem to do anything about it.

"More needs to be done to make this site respectable again."

Hyndburn MP, Greg Pope, added:"This is an issue of serious public concern and I will raise it with the police next time I meet with them to discuss what more we can do to tackle the problem."
