A WISH came true for courageous Bank Top teenager Sajeel Dar when he was given a new laptop and a family holiday by a children's charity.

The 13-year-old, of Shaw Street, suffered renal failure, collapsed lungs and spent two months in an intensive care unit on a ventilator.

His family suffered another setback when father Taswar had a heart attack shortly after Sajeel was allowed home from the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury, last March.

But the determined Crosshill School pupil had reason to smile when special representatives from children's charity When You Wish Upon a Star paid him a surprise visit to hand over the gifts.

Sajeel said: "I am really looking forward to going to Center Parcs and I love my computer."

At his lowest point, Sajeel had a brain haemorrhage which paralysed his left side.

But after treatment and a tracheotomy, Sajeel is now on the road to recovery but he is still dependent on medication.

Mother Khoula, who nominated Sajeel for the prize, said he never complains about his illness and just tries to lead a normal life.

She said: "Sajeel went from a healthy person who could walk to someone in a wheelchair. He has had to put up with an awful lot but he just gets on with it.

"The holiday to Center Parcs will be fantastic and will give us a chance for some time together as a family."

Charity patron and Granada TV presenter Paul Crone presented the gifts to Sajeel this week.

He said: "Sajeel is a star, if anybody deserves a wish it's him because he's been so brave.

"The charity only survives on public donations so I would urge people to make us their charity for the year."
