TEENAGER Cory Reilly-Sully faces the prospect of walking with crutches for the next six weeks after a yob's motorbike "wheelie" stunt went wrong.

Cory fractured his right leg when the off-road machine collided with the 14-year-old as he was crossing Deal Street in Bury with his pals.

The St Gabriel's High School pupil has had nine pins and a nine-inch long metal plate inserted into his leg and spent a week in Fairfield Hospital.

As he recovered at his home in Spruce Avenue, Bury, Cory said: "I had been skateboarding and my friends and I saw the motor cycle going in and out of bollards. He then came down the road, doing a wheelie.

"He was obviously trying to impress. But he lost control of the bike and he collided with me. The wheel hit my shoulder."

The teenager was knocked out in the collision. "When I woke up, I was lying on the ground and my friend phoned for an ambulance," said Cory.

His friend Patrick Cunningham (14) suffered cuts and bruises as the impact pushed Cory against him and into a parked car .

Commenting on the incident, Cory added: "The rider of the bike was a kid of about 15. After he hit me, he came flying off the motorcycle but jumped back on it and then sped away. I'd never seen him before."

Cory's father, Mr Andrew Reilly-Sully, said: "Cory has had to have nine pins and a metal plate put into his leg and will have to use crutches to get around for the next six weeks or so. But it's going to take about three months before his leg is really right again."

Police are appealing for information in a bid to trace the rider of the yellow off-road motorbike which was covered in mud. The incident happened at 5.40pm on Tuesday, March 1.

Anyone with information is asked to ring the police road traffic unit on 856 8073.
