PLANS for a revamp of Barnoldswick's Victory Park have been revealed.

The news comes just a month after the Evening Telegraph exclusively revealed a massive £2million boost for Pendle's parks as part of Pendle Borough Council's spending plans.

Victory Park is to get a rugby pitch, a new club house to replace the pavilion, a bowling club and there will be extensive landscaping and drainage work. The project will take up to two years.

West Craven Area Committee chairman Margaret Bell said: "A lot of local people have wanted to see a redevelopment of Victory Park for some time.

"Now the Council has been able to allocate funding for the work and this will provide an excellent facility for local residents."

The council is asking people to become Friends of Victory Park and get involved with the redevelopment to tell the council what they want to see there.

Colin Patten, manager of the council's parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation department, said: "It's essential that we set up a Friends of Victory Park in order to take the project forward. The Group will ensure that the improvements we are proposing will ultimately be what local people want. "

Victory Park is the latest green space in Pendle to get spruced up. A major redevelopment scheme is underway at Marsden Park, Nelson, funded by £1million from the National Lottery.

Studies looking at how playing facilities at Bullholme and Swindon playing fields, Barrowford, could be developed are also underway.

The public meeting to launch the Friends of Victory Park will be at Barnoldswick Civic Hall on March 24 at 6.30pm.
