THEY met by chance on a crowded dance floor and now, 50 years later, Dennis and Kathleen Seed have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

The couple, who were both brought up in Bolton, met at the town's Albert Halls when Dennis asked Kathleen to join him for a dance.

They tied the knot 18 months later at Seymour Road Methodist Church in Bolton, raising a family of two sons, David and Michael, and now have four grandchildren.

Kathleen (72) and Dennis (74) moved to Bury after Dennis' uncle, a keen Bury FC fan, spotted new houses being built in Parkhills Road.

Dennis spent the next 37 years working with the General Engineering Company, based in Radcliffe, then left to work as an industrial photographer until his retirement at 65. Kathleen worked as a nursery nurse at Elton Nursery and Hoyles Nursery.

Kathleen said: "We have argued plenty, but our marriage works because we never bear a grudge and we never bottle anything up."

The couple, who now live in Ettington Close, Walshaw, spend their time touring England in their caravan and enjoying long walks across Jumbles and Burrs country parks with their dog Kelly.

They celebrated their golden anniversary on Saturday at Lowes Park Golf Club in Bury with a meal for 70 of their family and friends, including many ex-work colleagues.

Kathleen said: "We didn't have an evening do when we got married, so this meal made up for it. It was really nice and everyone went out of their way to make it special."
