On Friday February 25, we held a free District Cub event in the form of a film night. Cubs designed an invitation for a friend to accompany them to the "movie" at Wesley Methodist Church Hall.

The invitations were to be judged on the night with three prizes up for grabs. About 70 young people arrived for the screening of Shrek 2, and we got underway with a generous helping of popcorn each.

After the excitement of the film and karaoke, the Cubs and friends were given a drink and the winners were announced. First prize was a £5 voucher for the cinema at Pilsworth, second prize, a bag of chocolate and third prize, a colouring book. Everyone had a superb night and the leaders enjoyed themselves, possibly more than the Cubs?

Thank-you to everyone who attended and helped out. A special thanks to John Parish, who brought his viewing equipment to enable the film to go ahead. It just shows it doesn't have to cost much to put a smile on someone's face and provide quality entertainment when we all pull together.

The same weekend, the 10th Radcliffe Scouts went to Giant's Seat for an indoor weekend as it was far too cold to camp out.

After the mandatory walk to the chip shop on Friday, they were up early for a walk/hike around the local area on Saturday. The leaders reported that the lads had cooked and washed all the dishes for the entire weekend, which made a welcome change, and the spaghetti bolognese was particularly good, Stewart - thanks! Sunday morning was church parade at Stand Independent, where the lads had all gained badges and awards for a variety of reasons. They included the challenge badge and community badge as the boys have had training in fire safety over the last five weeks at Bury fire station.

On Monday, February 28, 19 new leaders attended the first module of training at Lowton Street. Fifteen were from Radcliffe and I hope they are all with us for the long haul, because once you're in, that's it guys! But we all know it's just one hour a week'!

Well done everyone, I look forward to working alongside you all. Thanks to Peter North, local county training advisor for his time and trouble.
