MRS Lynda Hughes wrote (February 25) regarding my daughter's electric wheelchair, and was quick to point out that I had incorrectly blamed Bury Council, and not the NHS, for its enforced return. I am sorry I got it wrong.

However, I have had many dealings with Bury Council social services over 14 years regarding equipment for my disabled daughter, and to claim they reduce the pressure for carers, and aim to provide other equipment within seven days, is incorrect.

I asked for a sling to hoist my daughter from her new electric wheelchair in November 2004. Four months later it has still not arrived. I must be in that unfortunate 12 per cent.

If I blamed the wrong people, it is because the thought of losing a vital piece of equipment, which affects my daughter's independence, sent me slightly cuckoo.

Bury Council's reduction in funding to the Re:d Centre does not help my state of mind either - but don't get me started on that!

K. HIGSON,

(bewildered mother of

a disabled child).
