I AGREE with every word of Audrey Schofield's letter (February 25).

We now know why the council bulldozed the plans through for the Age Concern extension: they hold meetings there - so hardly an impartial decision. I would remind all the councillors concerned that they are elected to be independent and to represent everyone.

They have made a mistake in passing these plans. The Walker family wanted the Clarence Lido and parkland to be used by everyone as a green space to be enjoyed, as has been the case for the past 50 years.

I have just seen Age Concern staff stop children playing at the lido. How dare they. Age Concern does not own the lido; it is for everyone to enjoy.

Mrs Pilkington promised at the first meeting in the park 10 years ago, before any building started, that Age Concern would not add to the already difficult parking problems. Yet she appears to allow her staff to park all day on nearby streets instead of insisting they use their empty car park.

They couldn't care less - but we have to live with the consequences of this huge extension and all theextra cars.
