PLANS to erect a storage cabin at Sedgley Park Rugby Club have been rejected by Bury Council.

Residents from Park Lane, near to the ground, objected to the planning committee on Tuesday night.

The application stated that the cabin would be erected at the side of the spectators' stand for the sale of matchday programmes.

But one resident, Ruth Shapiro, told the meeting that it had been parked temporarily in front of her lounge window.

She said: "I realise that this is not in its permanent place but it is not acceptable. It has been dumped in front of my lounge window. It is detrimental to the area and takes up valuable parking space.

"The club has garages underneath the stand which could be used for storage and surely a trestle table could be used to sell the programmes outside. The residents have very strong objections to this. We have no faith in anything this clubs does or says anymore."

The committee refused to approve the plan, on the grounds that the position of the cabin will impact on the visual amenity of properties on Park Lane.
