ACCRINGTON Stanley are facing another legal battle after bosses of kit suppliers Prostar said they were to take action over alleged unpaid debts.

Stanley recently unveiled a new home strip after switching from Prostar to kit suppliers Joma, citing ‘supply problems’ as the reason for the change.

But bosses of Wakefield-based Prostar said it was they who cut off the supply because Stanley ‘owe them thousands of pounds from 2008’.

Stanley came close to going out of business earlier this month due to a £308,000 debt to HM Revenue and Customs.

Multi-millionaire Ilyas Khan paid a large proportion of the tax debt and took over as non-executive chairman, but he is still working his way through the club’s other debts.

Prostar marketing director Ian Bishop said he had not yet been in negotiations with Mr Khan.

He said: “We are now going to court to recover the money owed.

“It is with our lawyers. Proceedings are underway and have been for some time.

“Because it’s subject to a legal action I can’t say how much money is owed, but I’d like to stress that we tried and tried to help them because we understood their problems.

“We even made them an offer for 500 shirts for sale or return, but enough is enough.”

While Stanley were scheduled to wear their new Joma home kit for the first time in their FA Cup second round tie against Barnet on Saturday and will retain that strip next season, they will continue to wear their yellow Prostar away kit for the rest of the current campaign.

Stanley chief executive Mr Heys said: “I wouldn't like to comment too much on the situation at the moment because there are one or two issues on both sides, but we hope it will be resolved.”
