THE head of Hollins Technology College, Accrington, celebrated an ‘excellent year for the school’ at the annual prize night yesterday.

Mark Jackson pointed to record GCSE results, the school being widely recognised as one of the most successful in the county and the effect of the economy on the school’s future.

He said: “It was another excellent year and I feel we continue to go from strength to strength on a number of fronts.

“Exam results have never been more important. But good schools are about more than just academic success.

“We have worked hard to provide our students with the increasing opportunities to take part in a wide range of events, visits and extra curricular activities.

“I would like to thank all our staff for their dedication, commitment and support.“ Mr Jackson finished his speech by talking about the future of his pupils in the current economic climate.

He added: “We often complain about pace of change in education but we are living in rapidly changing times and we are charged with preparing students for an unpredictable future.”
