A 50-YEAR-OLD man who was airlifted to hospital after his car overturned on the Edenfield by-pass is in a serious but stable condition.
The man, who has not been named, was cut free from a silver Mercedes by fire crews after the car left the northbound carriageway of the M66, went on to a grass verge and collided with a footbridge support.
Crews from Bury and Rawtenstall attended the incident, which happened just before 1pm on Sunday. The man was airlifted to Hope Hospital.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: ”The car overturned and ended up on its roof in lane one of the motorway.
“The driver was taken to hospital with serious head and spine injuries but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
“Officers investigating the collision are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
