A BREWER has given new meaning to the phrase “having a skinful” — by handing punters the chance to win a tattoo at the launch of a new beer.

Andy Harding, 43, co-owner of Fallons Ales and landlord of the Black Horse in Darwen, organised the prize draw to celebrate the debut of his Tattooer’s Arms brew.

The drink was named after a tattoo parlour in Redearth Road, Darwen.

Customers at a jazz night received a ticket for the draw with each pint poured. The two winners of the raffle were left with a prize that won’t leave them.

Mr Harding said the event was a success.

He said: “I've worked in the trade for 15 years and have never heard of a similar competition.

“It was a one-off promotion that left its mark with drinkers. Our customers loved coming to the bar and asking for a tattoo, as they found it quirky and bizarre.

“The idea worked a treat, though, as we shifted 36 gallons of the beer, which is 4.1 per cent in strength.

“We were also able to welcome a different mix of people, with jazz fans, regulars and tattoo enthusiasts all joining in to create a great atmosphere.”

On Friday, the company is introducing the new Barren Mashers ale to the Black Horse pub menu.

Free samples will be given to those who come in for a pint and there will be two for one drinks vouchers available.
