An East Lancashire nursery where leaders and managers are 'passionate' and children 'seek staff for comfort' has received its first Ofsted rating as 'good'.

Bright Futures Early Learning - Bacup Centre, based at Futures Park, is a private day nursery with 'childhood growth and development at the core'.

The centre was inspected by Ofsted on Thursday, February 8.

It received a rating of 'good' for its first Ofsted inspection, opening in 2021 as a partner of Bright Futures Nursery School in Rawtenstall.

Inspectors praised the staff for having 'excellent relationships', and said they comfort children and settle them to sleep as they become tired, and are confident to explore the environments and eager to join in and learn through the exciting experiences staff provide.

A report published yesterday (Monday, March 11) said: "Literacy is a core focus of the curriculum.

"A wealth of books are available and learning experiences often follow the current story.

"Staff read dual-language books to children, which reflect children's home languages.

"Communication is supported as staff and children use sign language as part of everyday practice.

"This also contributes to children's developing awareness of similarities and differences between themselves and others."

Inspectors also noted the nursery's special educational needs coordinator is committed to developing better outcomes for children, and that all staff are aware of the importance of early intervention and working with other professionals.

As a result, children with special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress.

To improve, leaders and managers do not always monitor how staff implement the curriculum beyond the activities they provide, and so the intended learning for children is not always met.

145 children aged attend the nursery, looked after by 32 members of staff.

The nursery opens from Monday to Friday all year round and sessions are from 7.30am until 6.30pm.

The next inspection is expected to be some time within the next six years.

The nursery has been contacted for comment.
