A fitness trainer is excited to introduce an alternative way of exercising through Rock and Metal gym classes.

Tia Bird, 35, joined RockFit in 2020 and fell in love with the community and decided she wanted to incorporate that into her own fitness classes.

RockFit was created in 2016 by choreographer and fitness expert, Hannah Hawkey after noticing her friends wanted a full body workout but without the “cheesy music” often found in group classes.

The alternative dance fitness class combines cardio, toning and body sculpting set to a rock and metal soundtrack.

Tia, who works as a buyer for children's toys, said: “I first found RockFit before the pandemic, falling in love with it instantly I knew it was something I had to do.

“I’ve taught many different fitness classes before, from Les Mills programmes to spin classes, and nothing quite compares to Rockfit. The music and the people don’t make it feel like exercise!

“I have met some of my closest friends through RockFit, it’s a true community where anyone and everyone can be themselves.”

RockFit Founder, Hannah Hawkey, said: “The RockFit community is awesome – anyone at any fitness level will be made to feel welcome.

“Because of the nature of the music and the length of the tracks, you work harder for longer - you can easily do 300 squats and 200 lunges in a class without even realising!”

The RockFit classes kick off on Monday, May 22, at St Mary’s Chambers in Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

The class is £6 per session but the first class is on offer for just £1. Anyone new to RockFit should arrive to the class 10 to 15 minutes early to fill out a PAR Q form.
