The Royle Family’s self-proclaimed super musician Jim Royle has invited the people of Accrington to attend a local band’s event later this month.

British acting legend Ricky Tomlinson got back into character as Jimbo, the hilarious and cynical Mancunian family member, for a video promoting Interstate’s upcoming event.

The Accrington band, compromised of six members: Joe, Steve, Marcus, Nathan, Scouse and John, are putting on a free event at the Victoria Hotel in Manchester Road on Friday, July 22.

Interstate’s set, at "The Northern Glastonbury" as Jim put it in the video, will begin at 8pm and music lovers in attendance will be able to sing along and dance to covers of loved classics and the odd Ed Sheeran number.

Warning: This video contains some strong language

In the open invitation video, Jim teases that he may even make a special appearance treating everyone to "a couple of bloody Jim Royle numbers" if he can make it in time after another gig he has on the same night.

In a typical Jim Royle outburst fashion, he said: “I want you all to play bloody attention.

"Whatever you’re doing, put them spliffs down, put the drinks down and listen to the bloody message.

“The lovely little band called Interstate are having a party in The Vic in Accrington – everyone knows where that is, it’ll be the only place open.

“These boys in the band are normally tight little sh**s, but they’re not even charging anyone to listen to them this time.

"They all want you to go along and party with them.”

Joe Magee, one of the band members shared his excitement on playing for the local community.

He said: "We like to spread the joy. It's all about the party for us and just bringing in a good time, that's all it's about."

The members have their own day jobs but still find the time to perform at community events and festival as well as putting on live sets at the Accrington Hotel.

Their most recent performance was at Oswaldtwistle Carnival at Rhyddings Park last month, which was a successful, and sunny day out for the community.

The free of charge event will kick off at 8pm on Friday, July 22, at The Vic Hotel in Manchester Road, Accrington.
