A Lancashire town has played host to a star-studded Hollywood cast for the last month, as filming for a new Star Wars TV series got under way.

The seaside town of Cleveleys sprang to life at the beginning of May when it was turned into a sci-fi set, with big names such as Diego Luna spotted wandering around the resort.

Filming in the town was for a new spin-off show called Andor, which has been created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+.

The series is a prequel to the 2016 Star Wars film Rogue One, and follows the character Cassian Andor five years before the events of the film.

Diego Luna is executive producer and reprises his Rogue One role as Cassian Andor.

Residents in Cleveleys first became aware that something was happening mid-April when news of a film production crew arriving in the town circulated on social media.

While the details remained relatively scant, with people living close to the promenade receiving information letters on April 23, road closure notices appeared on the promenade and all signs pointed towards Star Wars.

Visit Cleveleys, a tourist organisation in the town, officially broke the story on Saturday April 24 and filming began on May 5, with the cast and crew calling it a wrap on May 11.

A release date for Andor has yet to be confirmed.
