A MUM is thrilled at the news her little girl is finally cancer-free after three years.

Chloe Mullan, from Blackburn, was diagnosed with a rare cancer that can damage tissue and cause lesions in the body.

Brave Chloe was just three when she was diagnosed, but has finally able to celebrate being cancer-free.

Her mum, Sarah Broad, thought at first her daughter’s problem was an ear infection and doctors gave her ear drops, but after further examination she was first diagnosed with juvenile xanthogranulom and later with Langerhans cell.

Medics found Chloe, now six, had three tumours in her skull.

Chemotherapy over 12 weeks did not improve Chloe’s condition, so eventually her parents were given the option to start clinical trials in London.

Sarah said: “It was the best decision we ever made and she ‘rang the bell’ in September 2020 after being cancer-free for a year.”

The mum of three was pregnant at the time of Chloe’s diagnosis.

She said: “It was so hard because once she she had her Hickman line fitted, we couldn’t get it wet and we had to be careful around her all the time.

“When the results came in from her MRI about her chemo not working, we spoke to someone in Cambridge, who suggested the trials.

“We wanted as much normality with her as possible even though we didn’t know anything about it, but they couldn’t keep the place open so we just went for it.”

Chloe then had numerous tests, including ECGs and eye tests at hospitals around London, before she was finally given an oral medication, which meant she did not need her Hickman line.

Her mum said: “Chloe has been so brave. During treatment most people would look away, but Chloe had to look at what doctors were doing, or she wouldn’t get it done, and even the nurses and doctors were amazed.”

Sarah could not speak to any other families with children going through the same thing, and now says she wants to help raise awareness about the condition.

She said: “I want people to know what I have been through, and if I could have spoken to another family at the time it would have been absolutely fabulous.

“It was difficult, especially as I have other children, so going to London to three different hospitals was a long journey.”

Sarah and Chloe’s dad Martin Mullan would have to stay overnight so she could complete tests.

Following the diagnosis, Sarah set up a GoFundMe page to help take Chloe on holiday and ended up taking her to Scarborough and a holiday park.
