The M65 has reopened in both directions near Junction 5, Blackburn.
Traffic in both directions was at a standstill and traffic officers were at the scene dealing with an 'incident'.
Highways England said there was approximately 2.6miles of congestion eastbound and 1.4 miles westbound.
The motorway was fully closed at 6:40pm but has now been reopened.
Elsewhere, Haslingden Old Road, Oswaldtwistle has also reopened following a separate incident.
