Rubbish piling up in a backyard of a house is attracting rats to adjoining properties.

This was an image sent in by one reader of a mountain of rubbish at the rear of a property on New Chapel Street, Mill Hill, Blackburn.

The rubbish is being dumped by the occupant of the house and has been an ongoing issue for others living close by. It has been cleared once in the past year but has returned to this state in a short period of time.

Blackburn with Darwen Council said it was aware of the issues at the property.

A neighbour said: “Rats are entering our house and this has been like this for the last year.

“A skip was called a year ago and all the rubbish was cleared by the council. But it soon returned to the same state.

“I am now at my wits’ end with the matter and having contacted the council on three occasions in relation to the matter I don’t feel like anything is getting done.

“It is now beyond a joke with this neighbour now and we can’t even find out who the landlord is to get them to get them to do something about it.

“We have been complaining about this being infested with rats for a while now.”

The rubbish is all being dumped by the occupant of the property who is also said not to use the bins provided, say neighbours.

The backyard is full of bin bags, a bed and other household items.

The resident added: “My partner is disabled and no one should have to live next to an eyesore like this.

“Our landlord has tried to help but has not been able to do anything.

“It is disgusting and we just want something done about it.”
