A MAN was stabbed during a fight over the bank holiday weekend – as officers were called to reports of a man with a gun.

The police were originally called to Thorburn Drive in Whitworth after calls were made about a man with a suspected firearm.

Another report was then made soon after about a fight between two men, with one of the pair sustaining minor stab and head injuries.

As part of the same incident paint was poured over the front of a house, resulting in the arrest of a woman.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called around 4.25pm on Monday, April 5 to a report a man was holding a suspected firearm in Thorburn Drive, Whitworth.

"Police then received a further report of a fight between two men, with one man suffering minor stab and head injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

"During the same incident it was reported paint had been poured on the front of a property.

"A woman in her 20s, from Whitworth, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is in custody. An investigation is underway and enquiries ongoing."
