THE number of people being treated for the coronavirus in East Lancashire's hospitals has fallen once again.

As of Tuesday area's hospital trust, which operates hospitals in Blackburn and Burnley, was looking after 133 patients.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on February 16 was down from 172 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 55 per cent in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 296.

Across England there were 17,093 people in hospital with Covid as of February 16, with 2,484 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 50 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 31 per cent.

The figures also show that 131 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to February 14. This was down from 163 in the previous seven days.
