A TV doctor has appeared on a zoom call with Matt Hancock talking about a reform in the Mental Health Act.

Nelson born 40-year-old GP Zoe Williams is a regular on ITV’s This Morning, often giving her second opinion on health matters.

Mrs Williams took to her Instagram stories to share screenshots of the zoom call, where the Health Secretary spoke about the changes in legislation for the future.

She captioned a video: “Currently on a zoom call with Mr Hancock, talking about the white paper out today – Mental Health Act changes coming to bring legislation into the twenty-first century.”

Mrs Williams also quoted Mr Hancock on her page, he said: “I want to ensure our health service works for all, yet The Mental Health Act is now 40 years old.

“We need to bring mental health laws into the twenty-first century. Reforming the Mental Health Act is one of our central manifesto commitments, so the law helps get the best possible care to everyone who needs it.

“These reforms will rightly see people not just as patients, but as individuals with rights, preferences, and expertise, which supports them and only intervenes proportionately, and which has their health and wellbeing at its centre.”

Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary Robert Buckland was also on the call.

He said: “Prisons should be places where offenders are punished and rehabilitated, not a holding pen for people whose primary issue is their mental health.

“Keeping people safe must be at the heart of everything this government does, and the reforms announced today will allow us to do this while ensuring offenders still get the treatment their conditions require.”

The new reform will give patients more control over their treatment, tackle inequalities, like the disproportionate detention of people from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities, the use of the act to detain people with learning disabilities and autism and improve care for patients within the criminal justice system.

Mrs Williams often joins the This Morning hosts giving her take on things such as coronavirus as well as other health issues.

She was previously known as Gladiator Amazon on the popular Sky show and is married to James Crossley, who is Hunter from the show.

Her husband was crowned Ultimate Gladiator in 1999.

The GP, who got her medicine degree from Newcastle University, often uses her social media to address concerns around the coronavirus vaccines.

She often talks candidly about her own experiences, including on This Morning when she revealed in December last year about her bowel cancer health scare.
