CHORLEY have been drawn at home to Wolves in the fourth round of the FA Cup – and could host holders Arsenal in the fifth round.

The draw for both rounds took place on Monday night and Chorley's meeting with Wolves is a repeat of the first round clash between the sides back in 1986 where the Magpies ran out 3-0 winners after two replays.

The winners will have home advantage against either the winners of the delayed third round clash between Southampton and Shrewsbury or the Gunners.

Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio, who was present for the televised draw, was delighted and now hopes history can repeat itself.

“That is what we really wanted, Premier League opposition,” he said. “And there is a bit of history between the sides. In 1986, Chorley played against Wolves at home and beat them 3-0. We just need to do that again!

“It is a big draw for everyone so I am made up with that.”

The Magpies secured their place in the fourth round of the competition for the first time in their 138-year history thanks to Saturday’s 2-0 win over a Covid-hit Derby County at Victory Park.

And having already seen off League One sides Wigan and Peterborough United and Championship club Derby on their memorable march to the last 32 of the competition, Vermiglio now gets to test himself against Premier League opposition – Nuno Espirito Santo’s side securing their place thanks to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Not only has it been memorable FA Cup adventure of the Magpies on the pitch, the competition has been a lifeline off it and has raised around £250,000 for the club so far.

Burnley, who beat MK Dons in a penalty shoot-out in the third round – after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes at Turf Moor – travel to Fulham in an all Premier League clash.

The winners will host either AFC Bournemouth or Crawley in the fifth round.
