POLICE are showing their support to end violence against women and girls.

Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw is once again leading the way in supporting the White Ribbon campaign in the county to end violence against women and girls.

White Ribbon UK was founded in 2005, and is part of the global movement to end male violence against women. The campaign works with men and boys to challenge those male cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence.

The Commissioner's Office has held White Ribbon status since 2015 and has just been reaccredited recognising the work of the Commissioner in support of the campaign. This has included working closely with partners across Lancashire to support them in becoming accredited once again.

Other organisation who have been reaccredited recently include Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Council, South Ribble Borough Council, Lancaster City Council, Rossendale Borough Council, Pendle Borough Council, West Lancashire Borough Council and Hyndburn Borough Council with other partners currently going through the reaccreditation process.

Mr Grunshaw said: "Violence against anyone is unacceptable but unfortunately statistics show that the majority of victims of domestic abuse are female suffering at the hands of male abusers.

"This is why this campaign is so important and why, after a year that has forced us all to stay at home more than usual, it is more critical than ever to raise awareness of the issue of domestic abuse and how to access support.

"I am pleased to see organisation across Lancashire come out in support of the White Ribbon campaign once again to show that we stand together and won't tolerate abuse in our county.

"I would like to encourage anyone in Lancashire to show their support by wearing a white ribbon and taking the pledge never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.

As part of the 16 days of action the White Ribbon will also be projected on buildings in different areas of Lancashire to highlight the campaign.
