This photograph may have been taken almost 50 years ago but, in many respects, very little has changed.
It is of Darwen Street in Blackburn in December 1971 looking back into the town centre. Given the raised viewpoint it’s possible that the photographer was actually on Darwen Street bridge when he took it.
The photograph shows two of Blackburn’s longest serving family firms which are still around today - Hobkirk’s on the left of the picture and Edmundson’s on the right. The town hall ‘tower block’ is in the background.
