BOLTON’S Community Kitchen fears for its Christmas meals after it was given 30 days to find a new home.

The kitchen is a non-profit group of volunteers who offer food, meals, clothing and toiletries to Bolton’s homeless, vulnerable and elderly.

Before the pandemic they were regularly feeding up to 100 people a night, offering three-course meals at their site in Bradshawgate.

However, they have just been given 30 days' notice to vacate their current premises.

The kitchen’s chairman, Gareth Bradbury, who has been volunteering there for over seven years, said: “It came as a big shock to us but there’s nothing we can do about it.

“There’s no point getting angry about it, we just need to get on with finding a new place.

“Christmas is coming up but I can’t see us doing our Christmas meal at the moment, it’s only 26 days after our notice, this is what’s upset me the most.

“We can’t be storing food for Christmas if we don’t know where we’ll be.”

Gareth said their work has been limited over the pandemic with the kitchen only able to do small takeaways, but that the community has still been backing them.

He added: “We’ve got a grant off Bolton at Home and we’re looking around but it’s difficult.

“We want to get out of the town centre so we’re not disturbing businesses with our work anymore."

Mark Logan, MP for Bolton North East, is calling for local landlords to get in contact with the kitchen if they have a suitable space available.

He said: “Bolton Community Kitchen needs to get the support to continue providing life-changing services to our most vulnerable residents.

“I am working with the council to understand what is available."
