A DRUG dealer who had been in the company of people who later tested positive for coronavirus will have to wait several weeks to find out if he will face jail time.

Allan Kirkley, of Preston New Road, Blackburn, was due to appear at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday morning to be sentenced for several counts of possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and one count of escaping from custody.

However the 35-year-old did not travel to Preston after he found out he had been in the company of friends and family who had tested positive for Covid-19.

Through his defence barrister Neil Howard, Kirkley told the court he had been in touch with the NHS who had advised him to stay at home and self-isolate.

Mr Howard said he was awaiting confirmation that Kirkley himself had gone for a test.

Kirkley is now expected to be sentenced on December 12.
