A SPIKE in coronavirus-related deaths has been reported as five people died following a diagnosis in one day.

A further ten people who had tested positive for covid-19 have died in Lancashire’s hospitals, according to data released by NHS England on Wednesday.

Of those 10 people, five patients being treated by the East Lancashire Hospital Trust died on the same day, Monday October 12.

A further fatality was recorded on Sunday, meaning the trust has reported six new coronavirus related deaths in the last few days – bringing the hospital’s total toll to 234.

A further two of the deaths were reported within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, while another death was recorded at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

A total of 191 and 264 deaths have now been reported in the facilities respectively.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust also recorded one death, bringing the total fatality toll there to 261.

No deaths were recorded at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, where 172 people have died after receiving a coronavirus diagnosis.
